The Reader Bee Method
The most fun a child can have learning to read!
With Reader Bee, children learn through multisensory experiences (e.g., hearing, touching, watching, etc.), getting immediate responses, a proven method for building strong neural connections in the brain.
Reader Bee simplifies what kids need to begin reading and writing—with 7 letters at a time, they start making words in a few minutes.
Reader Bee inspires kids to be builders—they build their own daisy—typer, which joins to form the revolutionary Honeycomb keyboard, optimized to let them build 1/3 of all text with a single stroke.

Honeycomb Reading
Reader Bee provides real-world experiences (off screen) to support each of the 30 activities and games in the app, providing practice to move toward fluency with very fun phonics. More apps from Reader Bee will move on to the other sounds of English and their spellings. But with Reader Bee’s first app, the child will gain the essential points of systematic phonics – that letters have sounds and make words, and the words make stories.

1. By limiting what children need to learn at once—just 7 letters at a time—children will quickly recognize the patterns of their first 16 words: cat, hat, mat, sat, etc. 500 simple, recognizable words can be formed with all 26 letters of the alphabet. Children move from letters, the abstract symbols of language, to forming words right away. Letters will have meaning, not just shadows and shapes.

2. Children only read and write 3-letter words, and these words have only one sound per letter, no exceptions (e.g. /s/ in “sat” not “has”). By reading and writing 3-letter words initially, English becomes a consistent language.

3. Reader Bee uses only lower case letters—cutting out half of the abstract shapes of letters, a big help for the beginning reader.

4. Reader Bee uses “letter daisies,” shaped liked honeycombs, with 6 consonants around 1 vowel. Children glide their fingers around the letter daisies to make words. It’s a new form of typing suited for little fingers. Reader Bee calls it “daisy typing.”

5. The iPad puts the child in charge of the whole process; the child is making things happen, not just looking at flash cards or letters on the blackboard. Everything the children do responds to their touch, and their progress is celebrated. The iPad is fun – it sends sparkly stars out of letters the child is tracing and offers clues if the child goes outside the lines. Reader Bee on a tablet plays music, shares sound and picture clues, celebrates success and assists hesitation. The children’s fingertips guide their focus of attention exactly where it’s needed to learn.
Reader Bee Stories
Reader Bee inspires the imagination with engaging stores and fun games which will help children grasp the concept of reading! The underpinnings of the stories are based on two proven methods:
- Story Telling Method
- Progressive Method with Fry and Dolch Words
The Story Telling Method focuses on providing children with real-life context when they are learning new words. The Progressive Method uses a graduated learning curve to introducing words based on high frequency word lists from Fry and Dolch. Together, these two pedagogical approaches lessen the initial trepidation, while at the same time building confidence and improving retention.
